Core Program

Our core program is the foundation for all the fun, excitement and learning that happens on the fields. AYSO is best known for our core program – it’s where the large majority of kids fall in love with soccer and make memories that will last a lifetime.

There are six core values – or what we call AYSO’s Six Philosophies – that are the foundation of our core program, and all others: Everyone Plays, Balanced Teams, Open Registration, Positive Coaching, Good Sportsmanship and Player Development. These are the essence of AYSO and it all starts with Everyone Plays.

Here in AYSO, Everyone Plays means that no kid spends their soccer experience sitting on the bench. Every kid plays at least half of every game. Learn more about AYSO’s Six Philosophies here.

Also, teams are put together in a way that makes playing soccer about the experience, not wins or losses. It’s not about blowing out another team with an unbelievable score; it’s about sportsmanship and learning to be the best possible team mate and opponent. Developing players is what we’re about, because soccer skills and life skills go hand in hand. AYSO’s main purpose is to get kids on the field, provide them with good coaches, and teach them to play soccer.

Our Core program includes a Fall and Spring season.  The Fall season begins on August 1st  and the Springs season begins on January 1st.  Typically 9-10 games are played each season and teams generally hold one to two practices per week (depending on the age group).

Fall Select/Extra Play

AYSO EXTRA play program is a select pilot program that has been implemented by AYSO that is one level above traditional recreational soccer. The objective of the AYSO EXTRA program is to provide top players in the U10-U19 divisions within each region a more competitive playing experience than traditionally offered through the recreational program alone. EXTRA is designed to provide a more challenging level of play for those players who possess the appropriate interest, skills and abilities and to enhance each player’s experience and individual growth through the game of soccer while retaining the spirit and organization of AYSO. The goal of EXTRA is to strengthen AYSO by retaining players and volunteers in additional primary programs operated under the AYSO philosophies.

Below are the guidelines of EXTRA as part of the AYSO FLEX™ initiative.

• Players are required to try-out for this program. Try-outs will be held in July/August.
• Everyone on the team plays. Guaranteed 2 quarters of play in every game.
• The teams must be constituted with the goal of creating competitive balance.
• Selection to the teams is based on open and impartial evaluations.

Spring Select

As a coach or as a player, it should be considered an honor to be selected to represent West Oahu AYSO. We have been very well represented over the years and hope to continue to provide a positive program for our players and volunteers.

The Spring Select program is designed to allow AYSO players who have demonstrated soccer ability and displayed an attitude of fair play, enthusiasm and cooperative team spirit, an opportunity to participate in a more competitive level of play with players who have similar ability. The program is available for players in the U10-U19 divisions where there are volunteers interested in coaching. This is an AYSO program that combines with other local AYSO regions. Teams may also travel throughout the season to participate in AYSO tournaments.

While the select season may offer inter-regional play and a higher level of competition all participants must uphold the AYSO National rules and philosophies. It is important that all teams recognize that good sportsmanship and positive coaching are not set aside during this season.

     AYSO Soccer Camps

AYSO Soccer Camps provide a number of programs including full-day, half-day and mini camps; as well as goalkeeper and striker clinics, advanced training camps and team camps. With the help of UK International Soccer Camps, AYSO’s official camp provider, we deliver these programs through professional coaches that are trained and certified according to AYSO standards, including Safe Haven.
